Cancun Part II

Happy Monday Everyone!

Hope you all enjoyed a fabulous weekend! This weekend was spent with some family for an evening BBQ on Friday evening that was wonderful. Then Saturday, while the hubby went camping with our college group from church, I elected to stay home, catch up on house stuff, i.e. our yard was basically a hot mess from neglect [vacation] and all of the rain we have gotten. Some much needed quality time with the pups was also in order as I was feeling pretty guilty about leaving them for a week and then last week I was adjusting back to, you know, life. Then I enjoyed a much needed girls night. It was a pretty great weekend if you ask me!

Ok- getting back to Cancun...where were we? Oh right! This...

We stayed at the Finest Playa Mujeras at the recommendation of a friend and it definitely didn't disappoint! I have no idea what the "standard" is for resorts since this was my first experience with one, but it exceeded all of my preconceived notions about them. Each guest is greeted with warm scented towels to clean your hands and a drink of choice (they come out with champagne, but since we aren't drinkers they said we could request another drink of choice).

Hospitality was impeccable. The entire staff, and I do mean entire staff from front desk staff to gardeners, etc. were incredibly friendly and always made sure to smile and say "Hola" as they walked past you.

Food. Gosh, I could probably write an entire blog post JUST on the food! In fact, I think I'll do just that-It was incredible! Warning ahead of time, I apparently don't take enough pictures of my food, so I sadly only have a couple to share. My sincerest apologies, as we really were treated to some pretty outstanding meals.

For some reason I had it in my head that it was all-inclusive buffet style like you would see at a casino, but would still have set times for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Umm, I couldn't have been more wrong. They have 10 different restaurants and you eat whenever you want, all you want and room service is of course included as well. Which we did take advantage of one morning and for dessert another afternoon during a mean game of scrabble!

Breakfast was pretty much buffet style if you went to the main option for breakfast, but had an enormous amount of selection and stations to choose from. We also visited the Sweet Corner a few times for a morning coffee. Hubby never did get his crepe, unfortunately, but their ice cream and other sweets (not for breakfast) were pretty tasty.

Lunch was pretty light for us most days, though we finally tried the Beach House, which was also buffet style. They had your traditional "American" food there: french fries, pizza, hamburgers, hot dogs, etc. sprinkled with some seafood and of course guacamole. While here I couldn't help but remark how much New Mexican culture really can take after Mexican food culture. At the Beach House they had a couple of snack options for a flour tortilla with cheese on it or with guacamole on it. I remember doing this as kids all of the time when we wanted a snack. Maybe it's a common thing in many states, but I'm choosing to believe New Mexicans have adopted it and made me appreciate the mix of culture we find in Albuquerque all the more. It also made me really appreciate green chile! We had some jalepeƱo salsa one day...let's just say, once a New Mexican, always a New Mexican I guess. We are really spoiled with that stuff.

Oh, and these:

Again, we don't drink, which in Mexico is practically a sin. Everyone looks at you when you ask for a "virgin" drink like you're crazy! Whenever you ask for water they have to clarify whether you'd like "regular" water or "Mexican" water, aka. Tequila. We should've known when our plane pulled up and the control tower featured a huge banner advertising for Corona :).

For dinner we made sure to try a different restaurant each night. We had seafood, French, Asian, steakhouse-style food and Tapas.

We agreed that the best restaurant atmosphere had to be Le Petit Plaisir, which if you couldn't tell by the name, was our French option. The music had us reminiscing of France last year, the environment was perfect for a date night conversation with "romantic" lighting even to seal the deal. The views were amazing and the food was DE-lish!

Our best experience at a restaurant was the hibachi grill room at Shoji Asian Cuisine for our anniversary dinner, hands-down. We had no idea what we were getting ourselves into, we just lucked out and chose wisely that night as we were treated to dinner that was made in front of us. Our chef was entertaining and the food...again...was absolutely amazing!

An anniversary picture I thought I'd throw in. While we both got really sunburned that day, the poor hubs was sporting a pretty bad burn on his face. We joked that we couldn't take a good photo that night to mask all the redness. Bummer for me, I'm actually the one still dealing with the burn side affects. Sun-block my friends-apply frequently!

Lastly, our favorite meal was at Brass Steakhouse. Though the atmosphere was quite loud, the food far surpassed that of any other meal, and trust me, that's saying A LOT! Ok well, to clarify, Hubby's meal far surpassed that of all of the others! I ordered fish since I'm not a huge steak eater, thinking I would probably be happier with that choice. However, Hubby got a steak I think called the "Argentinian" and made me try some. It was absolutely DEVINE! The tenderness, how it was prepared, the seasoning, the...everything was perfect-and remember, I don't even really like steak! After tasting his meal, I quickly realized my Salmon was pretty sub-par in comparison, it was THAT good y'all!

Now that I probably have your mouth watering, this post has gotten pretty long so we'll pick back up later for one last wrap up post.

This picture has nothing to do with food, other than we saw it every night after dinner and it was one of my favorite views. I'm not really sure why?

If you find yourself traveling to Cancun and are looking for a place to stay, I can't recommend this place enough!

Enjoy your day friends!
